74th Venice Mostra. The INTERFILM Award to Alireza Khatami

The 7th edition of the Prize for the promotion of interreligious dialogue awarded by the INTERFILM jury, to the Iranian director Alireza Khatami for the film ‘Los versos del olvido’ (The oblivion verses)

Rome (NEV), September 20, 2017 – The INTERFILM Jury of the 74th “Mostra internazionale d’arte cinematografica” in Venice (30 August – 9 September) has chosen as winner of the 7th INTERFILM Award for Promoting Interreligious Dialogue “Oblivion Verses” by Alireza Khatami. It is a French-German-Dutch-Chilean co-production which points at Latin American dictatorships but is situated in an universal, poetic dimension. It has been supported also by church institutions and was screened in the “Orizzonti” competition. “Oblivion Verses” also won the Prize for Best Screenplay of the Orizzonti jury and the Prize for the Best Debut Film by the International Film Critics (Fipresci) Jury.

This year, among the members of the jury for the first time there was a young Muslim woman, Takoua Ben Mohamed, a graphic journalist from Tunisian origin who grew up in Italy. The jury was chaired by Jacques Champeaux, president of the French Film Association ‘Profil’. The third member of the Jury was Charlotte Wells, in charge of the Swedish Church Culture department and member of the INTERFILM Presidium.
