Rome (NEV), September 14, 2018 – Saturday 22 September 2018, at 12 a.m., a bridge will be named after Giorgio Spini, an illustrious historian and Florentine academic. The bridge is over the Mugnone river and starts from Viale Strozzi to end in Piazza della Costituzione. The decision was taken by the City Council of Palazzo Vecchio after the proposal of the Toponymy Councillor.
Giorgio Spini died in Florence in January 2006. His life was charaterized by anti-Fascism and the Methodist faith.
After the engagement in the Action Party and the liberation war, he began the university career and became a historian of worldwide fame.
He was a lay evangelical preacher and a member of the Waldensian Board, the executive body of the Methodist and Waldensian Churches; he worked for religious freedom and played a prominent role in the negotiations for the Agreement between the Waldensian Church and the Italian Republic (1984).
