Truth for Daphne Caruana Galizia

Also the Protestant press adhered to the manifesto-appeal, presented on October 12 at the Foreign Press Hall, on the search of the instigators of the colleague’s murder

Rome (NEV), October 19, 2018 – Nearly a year ago, in Malta, investigative journalist Daphne Caruana Galicia died in the explosion of her car, in an attack in front of her house.
“No colleague has sided with me. What is the use of freedom of expression if you can not say that those who govern you are corrupt? I hate the idea of injustice and I hate injustice put into practice. Seeing me dead is the only way to silence me”. These are some of the words of Caruana Galizia read by Maria Grazia Mazzola, correspondent of the National News Program TG1, during the press conference organized by the Associazione Stampa Romana (ASR- Roman Press Association) at the Foreign Press Hall, in Rome.

Mazzola defined Caruana “exemplary investigative journalist”, in presenting the manifesto-appeal signed by 60 journalists and endorsed also by the weekly magazine Riforma and the NEV Press Agency -. “Let’s raise the pens, let’s write ten public questions addressed to the Government of Malta and to the top management of the European Union. We are looking for the truth, we need concrete actions also for the colleagues who exposed themselves by investigating. What do governments intend to do to guarantee freedom of information? How do they intend to protect the threatened colleagues at risk in Europe?” Mazzola continued and went on denouncing the attacks on press freedom from Malta, Bulgaria and Slovakia.

The conference denounced the increasing violence against journalists across Europe with alarming reports and stressed the excessive general silence, even in Italy, about the threats.

On October 16, in Malta, Caruana’s colleagues met to protest against the censure and the hate campaign against her memory, her family members and the bloggers who have resumed her investigations.
