Rome (NEV), 18 January 2020 – Starting January 12, the weekly column “The Sunday Gospel” of ‘Il Fatto Quotidiano’ publishes the reflections of Pastor Eugenio Bernardini, former moderator of the Waldensian Board.
“God can manifest himself in the simplicity of any person” is the title of the first episode of the pastor’s column.
“I gladly accepted this invitation from the newspaper’s management because it allows me to address a large audience mainly unaccustomed to religious language, least of all to the language and spirituality of the Protestants – explains Bernardini -. Writing about the Bible and theology in a secular newspaper is therefore a challenge because nothing can be taken for granted and everything must be explained, possibly with non-‘churchy’ words and categories. In my weekly speeches I will take inspiration from the biblical readings contained in the lectionary of the La Claudiana publisher “One Day one Word”, the ancient publication of the Moravian Brothers which every year proposes a series of randomly ‘extracted’ biblical readings and short accompanying texts”.
Like the previous collaboration with “Il Fatto Quotidiano”, which took place between October and December 2017, also this year the series of interventions will last a few months. The first intervention, based on the episode of the baptism of Jesus according to the text of Matthew 3: 13-17, reflected on the need for religious rites and symbols to be an occasion for conversion and witness and not for ostentation.
