Rome (NEV), April 24, 2021 – Three years after the mafia attack suffered by Maria Grazia Mazzola, special correspondent of TG1channel of the National RAI TV, the judge sentenced Monica Laera, a member of the Strisciuglio clan of Bari to 1 year and 4 months in prison. Crimes are injuries and constant threats aggravated by the mafia method.
“On the day of the sentence of a criminal who wanted to shut my mouth, my thoughts go to my murdered colleagues, betrayed, left alone while they were discovering corruption in Europe. To their inconsolable families, the embrace of us all”. With these words, the investigative journalist Maria Grazia Mazzola dedicates the legal victory against Monica Laera to those who did not make it. “To Slovak investigative journalist Jan Kuciak and his partner Martina Kusnirova murdered, waiting for justice. To my dear patriot and investigative colleague from Malta, Daphne Caruana Galizia, killed in a car bomb in Malta, waiting for truth and justice. Killed because, while they were denouncing, others betrayed the Country. Colleagues, always engraved in my inquiries and in my heart ”continues Mazzola.
In these years of waiting, the journalist has received the solidarity and closeness of colleagues, institutions, lay and religious associations and bodies. Among these, the Federation of Protestant Churches in Italy (FCEI) and the Baptist Evangelical Christian Union of Italy (UCEBI).
“I sowed among thorns and stones and I collected flowers – Mazzolla writes on her Facebook page -. I have received violence and falsehood, they have been condemned. I published truth above lies. I received nastiness and marginalization, but 1000 prayers made me strong. Thank you God, the Church and the community of the just are stronger than the destructive suggestion”.
