Rome (NEV), April 24, 2021 – On the occasion of the 20 years of the Charta Œcumenica (22 April 2001 – 22 April 2021), one of the pillars of ecumenism at European level, which brings together the Protestant, Catholic and Orthodox churches, a shared text was signed on April 22, by Metropolitan Polykarpos, Archbishop of Italy and Exarch for Southern Europe (Sacred Orthodox Archdiocese of Italy); by Gualtiero Cardinal Bassetti, President of the Italian Episcopal Conference and by Pastor Luca Maria Negro, President of the Federation of Protestant Churches in Italy.
The document refers to the “Guidelines for the growth of collaboration” of the Charta and contains, among other things, the renewed commitment of the Christian communities in Italy to a fraternal collaboration to become ever more common witness, so that the disciples of the Lord “may be one and the world may believe “(John 17:21)
