Rome (NEV), September 21, 2017 – Pastor Luca Maria Negro, president of the Federation of Protestant churches in Italy (FCEI), sent a letter to the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, “to express appreciation” for the statements he made during his recent visit to Malta, on the issue of migration policies.

“We need to ensure legal entry channels and to systematically govern the migratory phenomenon which surely is not a transitory one”, said Mattarella. Words recalling the Humanitarian Corridors, a pilot project promoted by FCEI, the Waldensian Board, and the Community of St. Egidio, in agreement with the Ministries of the Interior and of Foreign Affairs. Through this program, in two years, it was possible to legally and safely offer an airlift to 900, mostly Syrian, refugees from Lebanon to Italy.

“Today – president Negro wrote – the “humanitarian corridors”, launched by Italy, are activated in France, studied in Germany, discussed at various European institutions. We are obviously pleased with that, since – based on existing laws – it allows the ‘sustainable’ and planned running of refugees and migrants flows you recalled”.
